Flagstaff Arizona is the hub of Northern Arizona. At an elevation of just under 7.000 feet, Flagstaff AZ is one of the highest cities in the US and features a distinct four-season climate. As the favorite place for the desert-dwellers to escape the summer heat in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area, vacationers can enjoy temperatures that are about 25 degrees cooler.

Flagstaff Population: 2010. The population of Flagstaff has exploded in the last decade by 25%, growing by almost 13,000 to over 65,000 residents. Vacationers that have second homes in Flagstaff enlarges the population considerably during the summer months.

Flagstaff Elevation. The actual elevation above sea level is almost 7,000 feet. Mount Humphreys, which is part of the very scenic San Francisco Peaks reaches 12,643 feet. It is home to the Arizona Snowbowl, Arizona's most active ski-slopes.

Flagstaff Geography. This is high-mountain country that situates in the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the country. Thick forests are filled with Oak and Aspen trees that attract nature photographers to catch the bursting colors of autumn. You'll discover lush woodlands, rolling hills and high mountains. Deer and elk are abundant in the wild.

Flagstaff Climate. Late spring brings refreshing temperatures ideal for golfing and hiking. Summers can climb to the mid-90 degrees with lows dipping into the 40s. Beginning in October, temperatures can drop quickly with lows sometimes reaching below zero degrees. The weather can change quickly changing from sunny skies to thunder storms and rainfall. Land Size of Flagstaff. The City of Flagstaff itself comprises about 64 square miles not counting outlaying areas. Flagstaff sets at the base of the San Francisco Peaks and is surrounded by large pine forests. Flagstaff is the county seat of Coconino County, the second largest county in the United States comprising almost 12 million acres.

Flagstaff Location. Flagstaff set at the crossroads of Interstate 17 and Interstate 40 about 150 miles north of Phoenix.
