Flagstaff Vacations, Hotels & Lodging

Flagstaff Nordic Center

The Flagstaff Nordic Center is located in the San Francisco Peaks about 16 miles north of downtown Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest. The Nordic Center sets at an 8,000 foot elevation which is about 1,000 feet higher than downtown. Not only does it feature incredible views of the surrounding forest and the Peaks, but on a clear day you can see the South Rim of the Grand Canyon which is 60 miles away.

Winter Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

The Nordic Center is open year-round, but is most popular during the winter snow season when cross-country and snowshoeing enthusiasts hit the trails. It boasts over 25 miles of groomed and well-maintained cross-country ski trails and another 10 miles of snowshoe trails. The trails are non-redundant and are even longer when reaching more distant loops.

Both diagonal stride and ski-skating tracks are provided, as well as access to powder-covered slopes for telemarking. Trails range from novice to advanced, but 90% are intermediate. Full moon tours, ski races, and clinics are scheduled. Rentals and instruction are available.

The lodge and trails open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily but there are lighted trails each Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM during the snow season. Kickback on the lodge deck, enjoy snacks and hot beverages and watch the stars during dark nights. The Winter Season is Mid- December through March, snow permitting.

Amenities, Rentals and Ski Shop

The Flagstaff Nordic Center is managed by a private concessionaire and offers packaged food, hot drinks and trail snacks. The Center has ski and snowshoe rentals, tunes and waxes skis and has a limited amount of clothing fitting of the season.

Summer Season

When the winter snow disappears, it's time hike or bike the trails. Yurts and cabins are available for rent. Motorized vehicles are not permitted. You will definitely relish the peace and tranquility of the forest. The Summer Season is May through October.
