Getting To The Grand Canyon South RimThere are 3 ways to get to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon from Flagstaff. Any of those routes take less than a 90-minute drive. The South Rim is the most visited side attracting over 5 million visitors each year. Grand Canyon Village features all the amenities including hotels, restaurants, large parking lots, intra-canyon buses to various lookout points and ranger stations. Some tourists prefer to enter at the Desert View (east side) while others prefer to go the Village, which is at the west side entrance of the South Rim. The two sides are connected by the 26 mile scenic Desert View Drive with many overlooks along the way. Many visitors begin at one end and then return back to Flagstaff AZ from the other end. The 3 Ways To Get ThereTo The Village Via Interstate 40. Take I-40 west from Flagstaff towards Williams, Arizona. Take exit 165 (east of Williams) onto Arizona Highway 64. Head north directly to Grand Canyon Village. This route is about 100 miles from downtown Flagstaff. To The Village From Downtown. This is a very scenic drive that takes you past the San Francisco Peaks. Take Humphreys Street north to Columbus Avenue. Turn left on Columbus which will become Highway 180. Drive west on Highway 180 to Highway 64 at Valle. Drive north on Highway 64 directly to Grand Canyon Village. This route is about 70 miles from Flagstaff. To Desert View East End. Take Route 66 northeast which will turn into Highway 89. Drive north on Highway 89 to Cameron, Arizona. Exit west on Highway 64 to the East Entrance at Desert View.
