Lake Powell

How big is Lake Powell? Almost 2,000 miles of shoreline, more than the Pacific coast states combined. When full, Lake Powell is about 185 miles long with finger coves that are large lakes unto themselves. Lake Powell is the second largest man made lake in America exceeded only by Lake Mead. Interestingly, both Lake Powell and Lake Mead reside on the Colorado River about 300 miles apart separated by the Grand Canyon.

Lake Powell was created upon completion of Glen Canyon Dam in 1963. Fed primarily by the flowing waters of the Colorado River and its tributary rivers of the Escalante and San Juan, it took about 14 years to fill Lake Powell. That's a lot of water. It is more than 400 feet deep in some areas and is surrounded by the startling beauty of colorful rock canyon walls, rose colored sandy beaches and a brilliant night sky shimmering with bright stars.

Lake Powell is a water-wonderland that attracts millions of tourists every year. It is a boating and camping paradise. Not much vegetation but its desolate beauty is its enticement. Tranquility. Far away from urban bustle and centrally located to some of the most popular natural attractions in the country. Places like Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon on the Navajo Indian Reservation. And other destinations like the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. This is an area where ancient civilizations once lived as evidenced by ruins and artifacts that were gifted to the world by prehistoric Native Americans.

A world of water recreation. House boating, water skiing, jet skiing, camping and fishing. Take boat tours, hire a fishing guide or take a luxury yacht excursion. Venture below Glen Canyon Dam and jump on a motorized raft for a gentle float down the Colorado River to Lees Ferry. Rent boats or bring your own. There are public launches at four different marinas including Wahweap, Stateline, Halls Crossing and Bull Frog.

Just two miles from Page, Arizona. Page AZ is 2 miles from Glen Canyon Dam and less than 6 miles from Wahweap Marina. Page features all the comforts and amenities that you need including Page Hotels and Motels, restaurants, hospital, museum, and a golf course. The Wahweap Lodge offers comfortable lodging and a restaurant. Wahweap Marina provides campgrounds, with hookups, a pumping station, a laundry, showers and a service station. The marina has all of the necessary services including boat launches, ranger services, slips, boat rentals, lake tours, fishing guides, boat repairs, boat fueling, food services and dry storage.
